First of all, to make things easy, gather everything you need together and set it out on a flat work surface. A table is ideal for this.
You will need:
Variations
- Use different-colored mesh for different times of the year. This is a great way to make an autumn wreath with gold or orange and dried leaves for decoration.
- Get your friends around and make a night of it. This is a lovely craft to do with others.
- Perfect for the kids to get involved with.
- Add different decorations and colors to suit your festive theme and decorations.
How to Make the Mesh Christmas Wreath
- Start by cutting your pipe cleaners in half.
- Next, you will cut all of the mesh into 6-7-inch sections.
- Then, you will roll the mesh into tight one-inch tubes, one at a time, gathering bunches of four, slightly overlapping as you go (see image below).
- From the top of the bunch, wrap a pipe cleaner around it, then tightly twist twice at the bottom to secure each bundle. You will make 30 bundles: 20 with two white and two red, and 10 with just red.
- Now, you’ll secure the bundles to the wreath form. Arrange a bundle on top of the form, wrap the pipe cleaner around one of the inner wires, then twist it tightly 3 times to secure it to the frame completely.
- For the next one, wrap it around the other inner wire and alternate between the two inner wires as you go around the wreath frame. You will go around the wreath frame doing two red and white and one all-red, securing five bundles to each of the six sections of the frame.
- Once all ten bundles have been secured to the wreath frame, turn the wreath to the back side and trim the excess ends of pipe cleaners.
- You will then turn the wreath to the front and fluff the mesh to make the wreath full.
- Last, you will apply hot glue to the center of each snowflake and secure them to the mesh along the right side of the wreath.
Notes and Tips
- Be careful if your children are helping with this. They may need to be supervised when using the glue gun or scissors.
- Protect your table when using the glue gun. A tablecloth will be ideal.
- Utilize what you have if you don’t have any of the supplies above.
What age range is this craft suitable for?
This is a great craft for all ages. Children may need to be supervised with the glue gun and stickers, but older children and adults will mostly enjoy it.
What if I don’t have all of the supplies?
Use what you have. Repurpose old baubles or decorations instead of buying new.
