Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Simple ingredients, big flavor! Only a few pantry staples are needed.
  • Perfect for holidays and parties. Fun for cookie exchanges or festive gatherings.
  • Great for making with kids! Decorating is part of the fun.
Process Ingredients

Ingredients Needed

  • Sugar Cookie Dough – Use a ready-to-bake sugar cookie dough for convenience and consistent results. I used and recommend the Pillsbury Eat-or-Bake Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough.
  • Powdered Sugar – This is the base for the icing. Make sure to sift it if it’s clumpy so your frosting is smooth and easy to spread.
  • Milk – Adds the liquid to the powdered sugar to make icing. Start with 3 tablespoons and add more as needed to reach a thick, spreadable consistency.
  • Mini Reese’s Cups – These form the snowman’s hat. Cut each one in half so it sits perfectly on top of your cookie.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips – Use these for the snowman’s eyes. Point them down for the best effect.
  • Orange Sprinkles – For the snowman’s carrot nose.
  • Mini M&Ms – These are the snowman’s buttons. Two per cookie works perfectly.

Tools You’ll Need: small knife, cutting board, cooling rack, baking sheet, parchment paper, small bowl, spoon

How to Make Melted Snowman Sugar Cookies

  • Prep the Oven. Preheat to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Bake Cookies. Place cookie dough 2-3 inches apart on the sheet. Bake 13-15 minutes until golden. Cool on the sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  • Prepare Icing. In a small bowl, stir powdered sugar and milk until thick. Adjust milk for desired consistency—too thin, and it spreads too much.
  • Decorate. Work in batches of 3 for easy decorating.
    • Start by spooning a small amount of icing onto the center of each cookie and gently spreading it out, leaving a slightly uneven shape to create that “melting” snowman look.
    • Place a half Reese’s Cup on top for the snowman’s hat, then add two mini chocolate chips just below for the eyes. Nestle an orange sprinkle between the eyes for the carrot nose, and finish by arranging two Mini M&Ms below for the buttons.
