Tips and Variations

  • Using a stand mixer makes light work of creating the dough. You could also use a hand mixer if you prefer.
  • Make sure you don’t over melt the candies. Use a short burst of heat to ensure you get a smooth finish that isn’t bitter or burnt.
  • Parchment paper will ensure that your truffles don’t stick to the baking tray.
  • This is perfect to make the day before. Simply prepare your dough into balls, and then continue with the recipe the next day.
  • Why not try different flavors? You could use a different jello mix or use different shortcake rolls instead.
  • Decorate with sprinkles in a particular color to match a theme for a party.
  • Instead of golden Oreos, you could use the standard Oreos instead for an alternative look and flavor.
