Substitutions & Variations

  • Instead of a chocolate cake mix, you can use a vanilla cake mix instead.
  • Instead of shop-bought caramel sauce or frosting, why not make your own? It may take a little longer, but it will taste just as good.
  • Try making these cupcakes with a different chocolate bar. Mars, snickers, or even cookies or other biscuits will work well. They will provide a different flavor, but this recipe can be used as a base for many other themed cupcakes.
  • Add some edible gold glitter to make these super eye-catching.
  • Make one large Twix cake instead of individual cupcakes.

Notes and Tips

  • You can use your favorite chocolate cake recipe, too, if you wish. A cake box makes things quick and easy, but making your own is also an option.
  • You may also use a different, more solid caramel by making your own sauce.
  • To serve, you could drizzle over some extra caramel sauce.
  • Test the cupcakes with a toothpick to ensure they are cooked all the way through.
  • Allow the cupcakes to cool before frosting them.
  • Just be aware caramel will soak into the cupcake; this really does give it the perfect flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I serve the Twix cupcakes?

These are perfect to be served at a party. They are super tasty, and everyone will love the flavors of biscuit and caramel in cupcake form.

The cupcakes are also perfect for a snack, dessert served with some ice cream, or even for the next bake sale or as edible gifts for friends and family.

How do I store the Twix Cupcakes?

You can store these cupcakes in an airtight container and leave them at room temperature. They will be at their best for up to five days.

If you have made your own buttercream and it includes cream or cream cheese, then you will need to store the cupcakes in the fridge. They will still last the same amount of time.

Can you make this Vegan?

Sure! You can make this vegan if you want. A cake box mix is usually plant-based anyway. Just make sure you check it first.

Caramel is made primarily with sugar, so is usually plant-based, but sometimes store-bought sauces might be mixed with dairy products. In this case, just make your own caramel sauce.

The only thing you will need to change is the buttercream frosting, but there are plenty of vegan recipes for frosting that you can use instead.

The Twix itself is not vegan. But you could use crushed-up biscuits instead. Digestive biscuits are usually suitable for plant-based diets, so this could be a great alternative. Just check before adding.
