- 15.25 oz chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup oil
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup caramel sauce divided
- 16 oz buttercream frosting
- 12 fun-size Twix candy bars cut in half
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
Add the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs to a large bowl and beat on high speed for 3 minutes.
Divide the batter between 24 cupcake liners, and bake for 9-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
Allow cupcakes to cool for 1 hour.
Cut the Twix bars in half.
Use the frosting tip to hollow out the center of each cupcake, about ¼ inch deep.
Stir 1 tablespoon of the caramel into the frosting.
Use a spoon to add caramel to the hollowed center of each cupcake. NOTE: caramel will soak into the cupcake, and that’s what gives it the perfect flavor.
Add the frosting to a piping bag equipped with the tip, and pipe frosting onto the cupcakes.
Add a half a Twix bar into the center of each frosted cupcake.
Use your favorite chocolate cake recipe. A cake box makes things quick and easy, but making your own is also an option.
Test the cupcakes with a toothpick to ensure they are cooked all the way through.
Allow the cupcakes to cool before frosting them so the frosting stays put.
