Countdown To Christmas with Rudolph

  1. Print the Rudolph template on white cardstock.
  2. Use crayons or markers to color Rudolph’s head and antlers. Leave the numbered circles and Rudolph’s nose uncolored. Use crayons or markers to add any other designs, details, or decorations in the blank space around Rudolph’s head.
  3. Use a small dot of glue to place a colored pom pom on top of the circle with the number 1 on the first day of December.
  4. Continue adding a new colored pom-pom each day of December until the 24th day of the month. At the start of the 24th day, a colored pom-pom will be placed on top of the circle with the number 24.
  5. At the end of the 24th day of December (and right before bedtime), glue the large red pom-pom on Rudolph’s nose in anticipation of his arrival on Christmas Eve and completing the countdown to Christmas!

Notes & Tips

  • It may be a good idea to set expectations with the children before starting this craft. This is something that they will add to every day and is perfect to do at bedtime or in the morning alongside other advent calendars or countdowns.
  • If this is a craft with younger children, make sure an adult cuts out the Rudolph template.
  • It would be a good idea to have everything set up so the children can add to it daily. Maybe set it up with the other advents so you don’t forget to countdown to Christmas with Rudolph.

Variations

  • You could also do something similar with a Santa template. Maybe the children could add a ball of cotton wool to his beard every day until Christmas.
  • If your kids are older, they could have this set up in their room to do themselves.
  • If you don’t want to do this every day, this is a great craft to do as it is. Add everything together so the children can make a great picture of Rudolph and hang it up in the window for decoration.
  • Use cotton wool balls instead of the pom poms.

What age range is this craft suitable for?

This craft is suitable for all ages but will appeal more to younger children. Young children may need help with scissors or setting it up, but they can have fun counting down with the craft every day.

What if I don’t have all of the supplies?

This is a super simple craft idea, and you can always substitute things you may not have. Crayons can be substituted for coloring pencils or markers, and white card could be substituted for cardboard. There are plenty of ways to enjoy this without worrying about whether you have everything you need.
