What’s Included
This printable guide includes six simple steps to help kids draw a fish, along with coloring instructions to finish it off beautifully.
Inside the PDF, you’ll find two versions:
- A black & white version
- A colored version
Step 1: Draw the Basic Body Shape
Start by sketching the main shape of the fish. It should look like a sideways teardrop with a small rounded bump at the front for the mouth. Add a small curved fin near the bottom.
Step 2: Add the Fins and Tail
Next, draw the fish’s fins and tail:
- A rounded top fin
- Two side fins (one at the front and one in the middle)
- A small bottom fin
- A large oval-shaped tail fin at the back
Step 3: Add Pattern Lines
Now, it’s time to add some fun detail! Draw:
- Three curved lines across the fish’s body to form stripes
- Additional curved lines to define the middle fin
Step 4: Add Texture to the Fins and Tail
Give the fish a more realistic look by drawing lines inside each fin and the tail to create texture and depth.
Step 5: Draw the Eye
Add a large circle near the front of the head for the fish’s eye. Inside that, draw a smaller circle for the pupil. You can leave a tiny white space for a shiny “eye sparkle” effect.
Step 6: Color Your Fish
Now the fun part—coloring! Use bright, cheerful colors:
- Yellow for the body
- Orange for the fins and tail
- White for the stripes
- Black and white for the eye
These steps are easy to follow and perfect for kids of all ages. Whether your child is just starting to draw or already loves sketching animals, this printable will keep them happily engaged.
