Easy Dollar Store Stick Sunflower Craft

Simple jumbo craft sticks from the Dollar Store transform into a gorgeous Sunflower just in time for Summer! This simple sunflower craft is great to make at home or in the classroom.
Dollar Store Sunflower Craft
This is a fun activity to keep the kiddos busy with coloring and counting, but also an excellent opportunity for children to practice their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
I love this easy way to make a sunflower. Sometimes you just need a simple craft idea, and this stick sunflower craft is just that. Make this super cute wooden craft stick Sunflower in just about 30 minutes!
Supplies
- Wooden Craft Sticks, Jumbo – Dollar Store
- Craft Paint – Light Green and Yellow
- Craft Foam – Brown
- Buttons, Black – Dollar Store
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Dollar Store
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Permanent Marker

How to Make This Fun Craft
STEP ONE: Gather all supplies. Measure and cut 16 jumbo craft sticks in half with scissors. Basecoat the front and sides of the jumbo craft sticks with yellow acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
STEP TWO: Download and print the Craft Stick Sunflower Pattern, then cut it out with scissors. Trace the center of the Sunflower onto brown craft foam. Cut out with scissors making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project.
You could also use heavy-weight colored cardstock or cardboard instead of craft foam for this project.
STEP THREE: Starting at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, attach half craft sticks to the center of the Sunflower with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add four additional craft sticks in between the original four.
TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FOUR: Continue by gluing eight additional half-craft sticks to the center of the Sunflower.
STEP FIVE: Fill in the remaining spaces with half craft sticks until the Sunflower is full of petals.
STEP SIX: Flip the completed Sunflower over and attach a variety of shapes and sizes of black buttons with a glue gun a glue sticks.
If you do not have buttons, use rhinestones, pom poms, or even small dots from a paper punch.
STEP SEVEN: Measure and cut one jumbo craft stick in half with scissors. Basecoat the front and sides of the jumbo craft sticks with light green acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
STEP EIGHT: Attach the full jumbo craft stick to the back of the Sunflower for the stem with a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue the half-craft stick Sunflower leaves to the stem.
