Supplies

First of all, to make things easy, gather everything you need together and set it out on a flat work surface. A table is ideal for this. 

You will need:

  • Jumbo craft sticks
  • Acrylic paint – red, green, orange, etc.
  • Cardstock – brown, colour of choice
  • Orange yarn
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes, small
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Variations

  • You can use any size craft stick for this craft; just adjust some of the pieces to fit the size of the stick you are using.
  • Use different colored paints to create different scarecrows. Perfect if you want to make more than one.
  • If you don’t have any paints you could colour the craft stick in marker pens. You could also use glitter or even coloured card and stick it on with glue.
  • Add these to a card to make a funky-looking greeting card for a birthday or other occasion.
  • Use different colored wool or other materials like straw to create different textures.

How to make the Craft Stick Scarecrow

Step One: Gather everything you need and lay them out ready on your table or work surface. Begin by painting roughly ⅔ of a jumbo craft stick in the autumn color of your choice. We used red, green, and orange for ours. Let the paint dry completely.

Step Two: While the paint is drying, cut out a small square-ish piece from brown cardstock and a slightly longer in width brown strip. Then, cut another small strip from the color cardstock of your choice for the band.

Step Three: Glue the band to the small square and trim any excess.

Step Four: Next up, glue the brim of the hat across the bottom.

Step Five: Now, cut six small strands of orange yarn or wool. You could also use yellow if you wish.

Step Six: Glue the wool to the back sides of the hat, three on each side. Then, glue the hat to the top of the craft stick.

Step Seven: Next, add googly eyes.

Step Eight: Finally, use a black marker or pen to add a simple scarecrow mouth. A few crosshatch marks along the body finish this cute and fun craft stick scarecrow.

Notes and Tips

  • Younger children may need help with scissors or cutting up certain parts to stick onto the craft stick.
  • If you don’t have colored cardstock, you could paint a white card in different colors. Just make sure it has time to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Supplies
 

  • Jumbo craft sticks
  • Acrylic paint red, green, orange, etc.
  • Cardstock brown, color of choice
  • Orange yarn
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes small
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Instructions
 

  • Begin by painting roughly ⅔ of a jumbo craft stick in the fall color of your choice. We red, green, and orange for ours. Let the paint dry completely.
  • While the paint is drying, a small square-ish piece from brown cardstock, as well as a slightly longer in width brown strip. Then cut another small strip from the color cardstock of your choice for the band.
  • Glue the band to the small square. Trim away any excess.
  • Glue the brim of the hat across the bottom.
  • Now, cut 6 small strands of orange yarn. You could use yellow, as well.
  • Glue the yarn to the back sides of the hat, three on each side.
  • Then, glue the hat to the top of the craft stick.
  • Next, add googly eyes.
  • Finally, use a black marker or pen to add a simple scarecrow mouth. A few crosshatch marks along the body finishes this darling craft stick scarecrow.
