Gingerbread Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp. Cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup Milk chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp. Granulated sugar
  • ½ tbsp. Molasses
  • 1 ½ tsp. Ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp. Nutmeg
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Sprinkle Nutmeg for topping, optional
  • Gingerbread cookies for topping, optional

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine cocoa powder, chocolate chips, sugar, molasses, ginger, nutmeg, and milk.
  • Heat over medium-high heat, whisking occasionally, until chocolate is melted, and the mixture is steamy.
  • Pour into two mugs, and top with whipped cream, a gingerbread cookie, or a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Notes

  • Don’t overheat the mixture, or try to boil it too quickly. It will cause the milk to curdle, and you will end up with a bitter flavor.
  • You can heat the mixture in the microwave. Just use short bursts of power and mix every time to avoid burning.
